A car accident a year ago scarred Parker's face and arm, leaving him self-conscious, without his rodeo career, and semi-reclusive on his family ranch; when his mom hires Chelsea to help with office tasks, they get off to a shaky start, but she's determined to keep the job, to show her parents she's doing fine.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)
Plot and Setting: 4.5 -- Plot is engaging. Has unique elements and no major holes, but a few cliché/predictable bits. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline is clear and consistent. This is a very sweet romance, if a bit predictable. The romance element itself wasn't the main conflict, which I appreciated; instead, Chelsea is mainly struggling with her relationship with her parents, and Parker is coming to terms with his post-accident life, scars and all. Details about the setting and time passing are woven in nicely. As are the brief references to Tuck's family members who were stars of previous books in the series.
Characters: 4.6 -- Relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Strong relationships between characters. Chelsea and Parker both felt very real, from their thoughts to their interactions. Since the main conflicts in the story relate to how they see themselves, we get a good look at who these characters are. We also see some depth and nuance for some of their family and friends, while others (notably Chelsea's parents) remain fairly shallow characters -- on purpose, in their case.
Mechanics and Writing: 4.2 -- A handful of typos, punctuation issues, or word errors. (<15/100 pgs) None of the errors seriously hinder understanding. Good use of POV. Generally skillful writing. Errors include: A few very mild punctuation errors, miswording, and small continuity errors (like Parker picking Chelsea up once and setting her on her feet twice). POV alternates Parker and Chelsea.
Redeeming Value: 4.6 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. No explicit sex scenes. Implied moral guidelines for behavior. Very clean story. Parker learns that his attitude and actions can leave a more lasting impression than the scars on his face. He also recognizes that good has come from his accident, though he had been angry at God about it. He starts praying again. Chelsea comes to terms with her parents' unreasonable attitude toward her and how she is choosing to live, even when it results in them painfully withdrawing.
Personal Enjoyment: 4.5 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining. I’d enjoy reading it again.

I had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading.
The story was so well written. Took me to a world I had never visited. Loved reading about the cattle ranch through the eyes of
a girl who was out of her element and grew to love the ranch and
the animals, the big steers and of course the son who helped run
the ranch. She helped him relax with being disfigured from a car
Accident and enjoy all their blessings.

Parker still having nightmare from the crash.now back at the ranch in his hometown Kitner, Texas. His to do list, was to earn his keep, if he was going to be here. The past of high paying endorsements, that advertised the cattle, and the career of rodeo circuit, now gone. Chelsea if hired as a coordinator for the ranch, doing the office work. A mishap with a bottle of blueberry tea at the store,with a man and his dog, before coming here. Who walked in, but him. He was amused and annoyed by seeing her. Taking her out to the barn where she would be working. Interesting of how her parents had expectations for their two girls. Both of the broke away and choosing other careers. With Parker, his looks now different, people stared now. Would either of them want to stay and work at the ranch, or find anything in common, between them.
A beautiful, satisfying addition to the Love’s Compass Series. While including characters from the other books in the series, this story focuses on Parker and Chelsea. Grumpy, brooding Parker Wilson has had a year to recover from the devastating car wreck that nearly destroyed his life. “The chip on his shoulder is bigger than the scars on his face or the scars on his heart.” Haunted by nightmares, Parker has lost his girlfriend, his sponsors, his father, and his dreams for the future. “Losing the endorsement had been hard enough. But the damage to his arm had put an end to his rodeo career as well.” He has begrudgingly returned to his family’s ranch, back home to his mom and sister, and back to a million memories of better, happier times.
Her parents had a fit when she left their plans for her behind and followed her sister to Kitner, Texas. Courageous and spunky, Chelsea Blake finds that trying to prove her worth seems an impossible task. “He’s got issues. I have enough of my own to sink a small ship.” Both Parker and Chelsea are plagued by “doubt and self-consciousness.” Chelsea’s strength and confidence grows as she makes a place for herself at Wilson Ranch. This story goes from haunted and contemplative to fun and flirty as the relationship between Chelsea and Parker intensifies. I was immediately immersed into the daily routines of a working cattle ranch. I was drawn to the focus on faith in God, learning to trust again, praying for miracles, and the gift of daily blessings. “It takes real courage to break away…and blaze a new trail.” This clean story is appropriate for ages 12+.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this addictive series.
I love this series but this last book leaves a lot to be desired . I just found it a tad unbelievable you have a person going to school to be an attorney ending up working on a cattle ranch and not believing in themselves along with a rich cattle rancher who has been hurt in a accident. I loved the whole series except for this book, it just didn't hold my attention the way the others did. Maybe if the rancher had been a attorney or if the girl hadn't gone to school to be an attorney it would have made more sense or if the word rich hadn't been used so much I don't know. I love this author and have all her books I just couldn't give 5 stars to this one.
